Hope D. Gatling is a Newport News native and a Heritage High School & Norfolk State University Alum. Since earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Media, Hope has become an independent artist, owner of a music label (Dream Lyrics Music LLC) and Founder & CEO of Beautiful Girl.

PAST

Hope's accomplishments stem from her first original song, “Attached”, written for her high school contest. “Attached" won Hope first place and best original composition category in the contest. Not long after her contest winnings, Hope was afforded the opportunity to record the original jazz song with elite musicians, to include world-renowned drummer John Blackwell, drummer to Prince and Patti Labelle.  The success of “Attached” solidified Hope’s gift for writing music and she continued to enhance her writing abilities with tunes such as, “His Guitar” and “The Man for Me”, which became a radio hit in the UK.

Hope delivers music from her heart as an extraordinary vocalist with a gospel, jazz, sweet and sultry sound. Her unique vocal style has earned her nicknames such as “The Vocal Smoothie” and “Baby Ella”. Hope’s musical talents opened doors for her to perform as the opening act for Gospel artists like Lee Williams, William Murphy, and Richard Smallwood. She has also sung background vocals for Neo-Soul artists, Lina Loi, Choklate Moore and Gospel’s “Story Teller”, Dorothy Norwood. Hope’s music can also be heard on the Coast to Coast mix tape Volume 3 singing “A Story of A Girl “ and IHeartRadio where her station is popular with jazz and neo-soul listeners.
